On behalf of the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) Programs in Puerto Rico, you are invited to attend and participate in the 13th RCMI International Symposium on Health Disparities to convene December 10-13, 2012 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Pre-Symposium Training workshops will take place December 9-10, 2012.

In keeping with the theme of the symposium "Translating Science to Better Health: The Power of Diversity and Multicultural Engagement," the scientific program will highlight the excellence in basic, translational, and clinical research from the institutions supported by the RCMI Program. The Symposium has been designed to offer opportunities for sharing research information in areas related to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity, cancer, women's health, mental health, infectious disease, stroke, and behavioral and community health with special emphasis on health disparities. We invite others who are engaged in clinical, translational, basic science, education, and policy research in health disparities to join us. Click here for more details!

This special event is hosted by the RCMI Programs at Ponce School of Medicine, Universidad Central del Caribe, and University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus and funded by Grant Number 8U13 MD007596 from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

The local organizing committee looks forward to welcoming you to San Juan to share your expertise in helping to address and ultimately eliminate health disparities. We also hope that you will have time to enjoy what the Island has to offer!
