Julie Ober Allen is a doctoral student in Health Behavior and Health Education. After obtaining her MPH at the UM Julie Ober Allen3School of Public Health in 2004, Julie contributed to a variety of community-based research, intervention, and evaluation projects to reduce health disparities in Michigan as the managing director of the Center on Men’s Health Disparities and a project manager at the Prevention Research Center of Michigan and Michigan State University’s Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.  Her research interests are to better understand and address how social determinants of health contribute to gender role strain and racial disparities in chronic disease, with a particular focus on midlife and older African American men.
